The human central nervous system – the seat of self – is the most complex and powerful computer in the known universe. But the brain tissue (brain and spinal cord) is fragile and injuries to the brain tissue will not heal. Nothing should interfere with the optimal treatment path of an acute or elective neuropatient – to totally prevent any brain injury or at least forcibly minimize it. The patient always comes first!
My clinical field is neuro-oncology in the role of a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgery of the KUH NeuroCenter participates in the acute and elective multidisciplinary neurocare of the Eastern Finnish population. Neurosurgery is mainly microsurgery. The basis of neurocare is clinical and appliedneuroresearch – our population-based neurodisease databases and time-line analysis of the conduct of neurocare and outcome of our patients.
