A Pharmacy to Kuopio University Hospital – one of the first ones in Finland

Finnish Medicines Agency, Fimea has granted a license for a 14th public pharmacy in Kuopio. This new pharmacy will be located in the main lobby of Kuopio University Hospital.

Over half a million patients visit Kuopio University Hospital on a yearly basis. When relatives, visitors, staff and co-operating partners are added, it is safe to say that the pharmacy services will turn out to be useful and the quality of service increases.

“This new pharmacy enables patients to purchase their medication at the time of discharge, instead of going out and looking for a pharmacy that is open for business. This saves time and money”, says the new pharmacist Jukka Väätäinen.

The pharmacy will serve patients visiting the outpatient clinics as well as people visiting the hospital in general. Inpatients will continue receiving their medication through the hospital pharmacy and this will be included in their treatment fee.

Kuopio University Hospital will renovate and rent the premises and the pharmacist himself will purchase the furniture and equipment.
